An Giang’s export sector: Strategic Directions for the New Year

Export prospects for 2025 are forecast to remain positive, although international trade policy challenges still persist. The industry and trade sector continues to demonstrate strong determination and effort, setting an ambitious export growth target of USD 1.23 billion in 2025. This goal aims to lay a solid foundation for the successful implementation of the 2020-2025 term’s Resolution.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, in order to complete the objective and enhance export growth, the Department will implement various innovative solutions. Initially, the province will effectively carry out key initiatives such as the Border Trade Development Project, the An Giang Rice Branding Project, and the Logistics Development Plan. These initiatives are intended to serve as a foundation for boosting exports of high-quality goods, reducing costs, and enhancing competitiveness in both domestic and global markets. Additionally, the Department will continue its research and update on market information, export and import policies to provide timely guidance to businesses. This will help enterprises take full advantage of the benefits offered by Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

At the same time, efforts will also be made to strengthen trade promotion and export activities in key markets. The province plans to capitalize on export opportunities provided by FTAs – especially next-generation agreements such as the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-pacific Partnership), EVFTA (EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement), and RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership). In collaboration with relevant agencies, support will be provided to enterprises for trade promotion activities in new markets, as well as for expanding market share in promising regions such as Halal countries, the Middle East, Africa, etc. Continued support will be given to exporters to maintain traditional markets and explore further opportunities in FTA-partner country where Vietnam holds trade agreements.

Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Ho Van Mung, expressed his delight at the production and business performance of Antesco, which has contributed to the province’s increased export turnover.

Coordinating with relevant sectors to provide support and favorable condition for enterprises and farmers in accessing science, technology and applying digitalization in production and processing of agricultural products to ensure product quality. Therefore, gradually transition to a more sustainable production model, and promoting deep processing to increase value and meet international standards. Accelerate the development of commercial infrastructure and logistic services, to enhance supply chains that support domestic production, consumption and import-export activities. In particularly, prioritize the development of border trade infrastructure in An Giang Province to promote official export channel to the Cambodian market. At the same time, provide strategic proposals to provincial leadership and strengthen cooperation with logistics service providers to further expand export markets in the near future.

Alongside this, maintain close monitoring of developments and policies related to border trade to provide timely forecasts, assessments and implement responsive measures that support, accompany, and guide businesses in flexibly adapting, stabilizing and facilitating efficient customs clearance. Implement targeted capacity-building initiatives across sectors and industries to enhance integration capabilities and enable enterprises to fully maximize the benefit of international integration. Support export enterprises in accessing cross-border e-commerce platforms, expanding markets, strengthening competitive capacity, and gradually establishing their products’ presence in global markets.

As a leading fruit and vegetable exporter in An Giang and the number one exporter of frozen agricultural products in Vietnam, An Giang Fruit-Vegetables and Foodstuff Joint Stock Company (Antesco) has been recognized as a member of the “Over VND 1,000 billion Export Club” since August 2024. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh, General Director of Antesco, shared: “Antesco has emerged as a pioneer in applying advanced technology to agricultural processing, significantly contributing to the added value of Vietnamese agricultural products and expanding the international presence of An Giang’s agricultural products. In 2024, the company achieved record revenue of VND 1,400 billion. In 2025, Antesco will continues to capitalize on its strengths by supplying baby corn and edamame to international markets. These are Antesco’s two core products that help the company maintain its leading position in exporting and compete in equal footing with rival nations such as Thailand and Taiwan in both quality and volume. The company’s IQF mango products also rank among the top global exports. Antesco is committed to sustaining and expanding its export volumes, including fresh mango exports, thereby supporting the long-term development of sustainable agriculture in An Giang.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade anticipates a positive export outlook in 2025, supported by easing global inflation, recovering international demand, and widespread interest rate cuts by central banks. These trends are expected to reduce import cost pressures and help stabilize the USD/VND exchange rate, particularly as the U.S. Federal Reserve (FED) lowers interest rates. The recovery of key markets such as the United States and Europe will serve as a major boost for export expansion. Domestically, with a positive export outlook, Vietnamese enterprises are well-positioned to capitalize on this momentum and market advantages, especially through new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). To support these efforts, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to provide timely updates on export market developments, enabling businesses to adapt their production strategies effectively, identify emerging market opportunities, thereby promoting smoother import-export operations.
