Farmer Linkages in the Production and Distribution of Mangoes and Green Soybeans (Edamame)

On the afternoon of October 2, the People’s Committee of An Phu District, in coordination with An Giang Fruit-Vegetables and Foodstuff Joint Stock Company (Antesco), held a conference to review the value chain-based linkage in the production and consumption of green soybeans and Keo mangoes. Attendees included Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Head of the An Giang Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection; Mr. Nguyen Huy Cuong, Deputy General Director of Antesco; Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Vice Chairwoman of the An Phu District People’s Committee; along with representatives from cooperatives and local farmers.

Cooperatives and farmers delivered speeches at the conference

In 2024, Antesco signed the agreement with local authorities to develop raw material zones covering 8,400 hectares of baby corn, 600 hectares of green soybeans, and 500 hectares of Keo mangoes, under comprehensive contract farming and area-based procurement schemes. As of the first nine months of 2024, the total cultivated area had reached 3,069 hectares, including 1,700 hectares of baby corn, 450 hectares of green soybeans and 919 hectares of Keo mangoes. The total volume of finished products purchase reached 30,077 tons, of which 22,980 tons were Keo mangoes, full covered under Antesco’s guaranteed procurement policy. In 2025, the company will continue its collaboration with localities to cultivate and purchase from 7,870 hectares of baby corn, green soybeans, and Keo mangoes, with an expected output of approximately 64,700 tons. In addition, the company plans to expand cultivation areas for other agriculture products such as durian, sweet corn, green-skin pomelo and seedless mangoes, etc. to meet market demand.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Cuong, Deputy General Director of Antesco, outlined the company’s strategic direction for expanding cultivation areas in 2025. He stated: “The company is committed to working closely with farmers and local authorities. We will continue to provide seeds, financial support, technical guidance, fertilizers, and pesticides. Deferred payments until harvest are offered, and we gurarantee 100% product purchase at pre-agreed contract prices, enabling farmers to cultivate with confidence.”

The People’s Committee of An Phu District reaffirmed its commitment to creating favorable conditions for the company, including accelerating the issuance of planting area codes to support access to export markets. She also urged Antesco to continue exploring opportunities to further expand raw material and production areas in line with GlobalGAP standards.
